The meaning and the importance of Bonbonieres..

Bonboniers (favours) are offered to guests at a wedding or baptism after the ceremony (at church) and / or at the dinner.

The Bonbonier has its roots, from France, since the time of King Ludovic, who used to offer as a gift to his guests, small boxes of candy. (candies in French are called bon bon).

Each bonbonier  always contains a “single” number of candies, because the “single” number symbolizes the union of the couple into “one”. Usually 5 pieces of candy are selected, but 7 or 9 pieces can be selected too. 5 candy is the most common choice because it symbolizes the health, longevity, happiness, well-being and fertility of the couple.

Their white color symbolizes the happy days that the couple will share with each other, the sweet and slightly bitter taste that comes from the combination of sugar with almonds symbolizes the joys and sorrows of marriage and the almond, fertility and healthy heirs that they will have.

In ancient times, honey and nuts or almond cakes were offered instead of bonbons. In some places they even offered llokum(Turkish delight) instead of candy, which was made by honey and almonds.

Bonboniers (favors) has undergone developments and today we look at a variety in their materials and models.

The importance of the bonboniere (favor) depends from its size because it is the gift that the couple gives to the guests, it is also sent to the guests who did not have the opportunity to be present at the wedding but who sent you their wishes.
